CITY OF BUSSELTON ADMINISTRATION CENTRE
Project Location— Busselton, WA
Project Client— MPS Architects
Project Architect— MPS Architects
Project Contractor— BGC
The City of Busselton Administration Centre houses the new offices for the local government of the region. This project comprised the construction of a new three-storey office building and part demolition and part refurbishment of the existing City of Busselton offices. BG&E provided all structural engineering services including option engineering of various structural systems to develop a cost-effective structural solution. This included consideration of the limited availability of various construction trades in that region and liaising with local builders to develop a region-specific design.
The structural design also caters for the 3-level open foyer area, including ‘flying stairs’ and other architecturally expressive forms. In addition, the location of this structure adjacent to the Vasse River meant that the design of foundations needed to cater for variable ground conditions and the presence of loose and soft layers of soil. This necessitated working closely with geotechnical engineers to develop a reliable and cost-effective foundation solution.
