Nepean River Footbridge Penrith, New South Wales
We are proud to announce that in September 2017, the construction of the superstructure for the iconic Nepean River Footbridge officially started with the launch in January of the first 50m long cantilever segment of the footbridge steel truss.
The bridge has an overall clear span of 200m with the truss over 14m high and 6m wide.
BG&E worked closely with Roads and Maritime Services NSW to develop an innovative node to node, incrementally launched system that significantly reduced the need for temporary piers, thereby minimizing the hydrology impacts in the river without comprising the sculptural integrity of the design.
This is the first time that this innovative approach has been used in Australia.
