ST MARYS CATHEDRAL Perth, WA The St Mary Cathedral redevelopment included the refurbishment and extension of the existing 1865 / 1925 Cathedral to allow the incorporation of a new assembly area and a multi-functional basement level. A number of sophisticated construction techniques including high pressure grout injection and contiguous piling were used to underpin and stabilise the building’s foundations and wall elements to allow part demolition of the Cathedral and the construction of the new addition through the middle of the existing building. The partial demolition of the West Transept wall involved extensive temporary works and needling to support the preloading of the upper portion of the wall and the roof above. The project involved extensive use of precast concrete construction for both structural framing and architectural fabric. BG&E | PAGE 44 HER I TAGE & RE FURB I SHMENT
