Inaugural Winner of The Helen Alguire Innovation Award

BG&E and the nominated judging panel are thrilled to announce the inaugural winner of The Helen Alguire Innovation Award.

This year’s award is presented to James de Burgh and Kim Nguyen for their innovative work on the “Derailment Risk Assessment Approach”.

The award recognises the exceptional quality of their submission, and the exemplary use of innovation to investigate and address an area of the industry that to date has lacked clear definition. Their approach highlighted the power of teamwork and synergy, with partnership and consultation of external stakeholders, showcased not only technical proficiency but also effective communication, which was pivotal in the successful implementation of their proposed design approach.

James de Burgh and Kim Nguyen’s “Derailment Risk Assessment Approach”, significantly contributes to enhancing safety and practicality in the transportation industry. Their work has the potential to impact the approach to design of safety systems well beyond the scope of BG&E projects. Their commitment and determination to achieve meaningful outcomes and create positive change set their submission apart.

The judging panel reviewed six creative and innovative submissions. All submissions showcased exceptional work and displayed how BG&E Engineers are at the forefront of shaping the future of engineering.
