Abu Dhabi International Airport Arrivals Terminal

Aviation

In 2019, Abu Dhabi’s International Airport welcomed 10.6 million arrival passengers, via approximately 150,000 flights.

BG&E provided structural engineering services for the new Arrivals Terminal area at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The building is an open 20-metre span steel-framed structure with a column free area of more than 2,000 square metres and floor-to-ceiling height of six metres. The scope of work encompassed designing the tunnel extension to connect the new Arrivals Terminal to the car park, with the extension built using precast segment units to keep the nearby roads operational during construction.

The project also included reconfiguring the Customs’ service area and re-routing the passenger flow via the creation a new exit. The transition area from the Customs’ service area to the new Arrivals Terminal included the design of new stairs, two travellators and three steel and glass lifts, linking to the new tunnel.
