Anketell-Thomas Road Freight Corridor

The Anketell-Thomas Road Freight Corridor will provide a safe, efficient and high-quality connection between the Tonkin Highway and the future container port terminal in Kwinana’s Outer Harbour.

The road will be upgraded to four lanes between Tonkin Highway in Oakford and Lyon Road in Anketell, creating two lanes in each direction for general traffic plus dedicated freight only lanes (one in each direction) between Lyon Road and Clementi Road in Mandogalup, which will include new bridges over Kwinana Freeway. This project also features:

  • new interchanges, bridges, roundabouts, and ramps at Thomas and Kargotich and Thomas and Nicholson roads;
  • service roads to provide access to properties on Anketell and Thomas roads; and
  • a shared path along the south side of the corridor for pedestrians and cyclists.

BG&E provided detailed geometric alignment design along the proposed corridor, including two grade separated roundabout interchanges, three diamond interchanges, one single-point urban interchange, twenty bridges, one underpass and numerous connecting road upgrades and modifications.

BG&E also completed a detailed drainage strategy for the project as well as provided Main Roads with an overarching Public Utilities Services strategy.

This project will facilitate free flow travel by Industry to the port – keeping trade in WA moving well into the future; improve general east west commuting traffic – allowing greater access to the area as retail and residential areas develop; and support jobs and business opportunities for the local community for generations to come.
