Gateway Vision Planning Study
As a joint venture (JV) partner with Main Roads Western Australia (WA), in the Gateway Vision JV, BG&E provided master planning, concept design and helped prepare the business case for this project over an 18-month period.
The first phase of the project included undertaking a suite of engineering and environmental investigations including feature survey, geotechnical, traffic, literature reviews, flora and fauna, and heritage surveys. The investigation phase was supported with extensive community and stakeholder engagement targeted at raising awareness of the project and identifying key planning issues to be considered.
A sophisticated traffic forecasting model was developed under this phase for testing alternative design options (using PARAMICS). The model is believed to be the largest and most complex ever developed in WA.
The project will deliver a state-of-the-art road network, which will include the latest network operations and intelligent transport systems, with provision for future expansion of these management systems.
The project represents a key gateway of both State and national significance, requiring delivery of a high standard of urban design, aesthetics and functionality, to achieve the iconic status deserved by this project.
