International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Headquarters
Opening its doors in June 2015, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Headquarters in Abu Dhabi sets a new benchmark in innovative building design and materials, while utilising low energy and water consumption. The design of IRENA has been recognised by one of the highest global sustainability standards, earning a 4-Pearl Rating on the Estidma Green Building Scale.
BG&E worked with Brookfield Multiplex to ensure the IRENA headquarters was designed and constructed as a high-performing energy-efficient building.
The 32,000 square metre, seven-storey, Grade A office and retail complex, comprises three oval buildings and is one of the most sustainable developments in the United Arab Emirates.
BG&E provided design recommendations for the core and shell components. A seven-storey steel structural frame and a floor consisting of a composite structural steel beam system, plus a metal deck of reinforced concrete to build on top of prelaid piled and slab on grade foundations. The design solution demonstrated clever use of the ecological materials.
