Royal Children’s Hospital

This $1 billion development is a world-class pediatric hospital that meets the current and future healthcare needs of children and adolescents in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Australia’s greenest hospital, it combines new facilities, innovative models of care and leading-edge research and education.

BG&E’s facades experts worked with Billard Leece, Bates Smart and Lendlease, to assist the design team to meet their goals. Our role involved descriptive façade design, on-site quality monitoring and control, materials science and material selection, energy performance assessment, and identifying façade construction strategies.

The North building involved precast concrete panels, with applied glass and glass sun shading. The East-West building involved precast concrete panels, strip windows, curtain walling and a screen of hanging glass petals to the main façade along Flemington Road.

The Royal Children’s Hospital is leading the way in pediatric care – with it’s 6,000 staff, 12 wards and 350 beds – frequently treating up to 300 new patients daily.
