Thornlie Station

BG&E provided structural and civil engineering services for the Thornlie Railway Station, a new station on the spur line to the Armadale passenger rail line.

The scope of works comprised structural engineering for the building and civil works for car parking and pedestrian access. The station is linked to the Spencer Road overpass road bridge, pedestrian access facilities and carpark, that were also designed by BG&E.

Thornlie Station consists of single-storey steel framed structure with masonry cladding to the station facilities areas. Cantilevered bus shelter roofs are a feature of the bus drop-off points each side of the main entry to the station. The roofs cantilever off the face of a sweeping masonry parapet wall with punched openings. Masonry noise walls are provided to offer both noise protection and visual screening for passengers and nearby residents.
