Buaraba Timber Bridge Replacement

The Somerset Region is a local government area (LGA) located in the West Moreton Region of South East Queensland, which is located approximately 100 kilometres Northwest of the State’s capital.

In 2008, this LGA was created from a merger of the Shire of Esk and the Shire of Kilcoy, and it is commonly known as the Brisbane Valley, due to the Brisbane River which courses through the region, although significant parts of the region lie outside the hydrological Brisbane Valley.

BG&E completed the Options Analysis and Business Case for the replacement of the Buaraba Bridge in the Somerset Regional Council area.

Our team developed potential bridge replacement options, including careful consideration of safety, cost, constructability and the environmental impact.

Our services encompassed:

  • 3D visualisation to assist with the Options Analysis;
  • consideration of modular bridge systems;
  • application of Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Smarter Solutions; and
  • network optimisation framework.

The potential benefits of this project include improving safety, load limits and access, and reducing maintenance.
